“In Spain and all over the world, wine and La Rioja go hand-in-hand.”

The wines of this region in northern Spain have earned world-wide recognition. The quality of the wine from La Rioja is so good that it has become a hallmark of this region. September is when the wine picking begins and when Logroño celebrates the Riojan Harvest Festival. The Harvest Festivals pay homage to San Mateo, patron saint of Logroño, and turn the city into the scene of several festive events, with wine as the main player. One of the most spectacular is the Treading of the Grapes: young people wearing traditional dress tread the freshly picked grapes to get the first grape juice of the season, which they then offer to the Virgen de la Valvanera. Music concerts for all ears, an international fireworks contest, aerial dance shows at night time and public tastings complete the program of the Harvest Festivals. Visiting the wineries, seeing the entire wine creation process and participating in some of the many frequent wine tasting courses will make your trip an unforgettable experience: a trip to the La Rioja wine route.
