The Harvest Festivals pay homage to San Mateo, patron saint of Logroño, and turn the city into the scene of several festive events, with wine as the main player. One of the most spectacular is the Treading of the Grapes: young people wearing traditional dress tread the freshly picked grapes to get the first grape juice of the season, which they then offer to the Virgen de la Valvanera.
